An Event for Health & Heritage

The Freedom's Run was created by Dr. Mark Cucuzzella and Lois Turco to promote a healthier lifestyle in what is known as one of the most unhealthy states in the country. In the 10+ years since the race's inception, Freedom's Run has created a running boom through our small region and provided locals with a way to keep active and showcase our beautiful region. Through the Freedom's Run Grant, we've been able to donate over $400,00 to providing our community with local trails at their schools and youth and adult camps. So come join us and be a part of the West Virginia Running Revolution!

ABOUT US

Freedom's Run is an event put on through the Freedom's Run Race Series. The Freedom's Run Race Series includes Harper's Ferry Half & 5k, the Freedom's Run Event held in October, and Camp River Runners. The Race Series is guided by the Eastern Area Health Education Center of WVU Medicine, a non-profit whose mission is service to the community. Proceeds from all Freedom's Run events are put to the Freedom's Run Grant, a community grant service that promotes health and wellness throughout the nine county service area that is the Eastern Panhandle of WV.  So if you hear mention of Freedom's Run and Harper's Ferry Half together, now you know why!

Freedom's Run Community Grant

Since 2009, Freedom’s Run, through the guidance of Eastern Area Health Education Center,  has given over $230,000 directly back to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia as well as neighboring communities.  We have assisted with matching grants to bring the total to almost $400,000.

The central mission of the Eastern Area Health Education Center is service to the community. With that, the mission of these community grants is to promote health and wellness throughout the nine county service area of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
